STAND OUT FROM THE PACK WITH THESE DESIGN TIPS
Long gone are the days when companies produced un-inspiring annual reports that looked the same as every other ASX company. Nowadays, Annual Reports are seen as another marketing opportunity and should reflect your company’s brand and values.
Colour has been proven to increase one’s willingness to read and how accepting we are towards information. For example using a colour as strong as red can cause a physical reaction to your audience.
So use colour strategically in your Annual Report:
- To represent a positive or negative
- Categories information
- Draw your audience’s attention to a take home point
INCORPORATE RELEVANT IMAGERY
Everybody loves looking at imagery and good use of pictures will succinctly convey information. It will tap into the emotional side of the brain that can’t be achieved with text alone. So incorporate imagery in your Annual Report to communicate your key messages; but choose wisely and make sure they are relevant (and high res if your Annual Report is being printed).
REPRESENT POINTS WITH ICONS
Sometimes its difficult to find images that aren’t clichéd or expensive – so to avoid the frustration consider using icons instead. They achieve quick and clear representations of key points that help enhance the reader’s experience and understanding of your information and data.
BE BOLD WITH TYPOGRAPHY
Typography is the art and technique of arranging text and it’s effect should be considered when designing your Annual Report. Typography will have impact on your reader and how information is interpreted, so use it to:
- Highlight key points
- Breakup information
- Hold your reader’s attention
- Communicate hierarchy
- Create harmony
